This product is no longer available to order and will not be coming back into stock.
In Stock products are those that are currently held in stock at our Oxfordshire warehouse. This stock status is updated regularly but is subject to change at very short notice.
Products that are Awaiting Stock are items that we would normally carry on stock at our Oxfordshire warehouse, but are currently unavailable. Chances are there is already more on the way, but if you would like a more accurate availability status please feel free to Contact Us.
Urgent order items are products that we do not normally carry on stock, but they are typically held on stock by our European suppliers. Depending on availability, we will seek to order these products quickly, when we have an enquiry. They can therefore be subject to quicker availability times than "Special Order" products.
Special Order items are those that are most often built to order. For these items, we tend to experience longer lead times as we negotiate them into the production line with our suppliers.

In opera, verismo (Italian for 'realism') was a post-Romantic tradition associated with a variety of reputed Italian composers. The MC Verismo aims to portray the same sense of “realism” associated with the genre, and does so thanks to Ortofon’s advanced knowledge of vibrations, and how to control them. Every aspect of the design is aimed to allow for accurate musical reproduction, without any unwanted facets.
The MC Verismo is a class-leading, high-end moving coil (MC) cartridge, drawing inspiration and technologies from others in Ortofon’s flagship Exclusive Series. With its advanced diamond cantilever, Replicant 100 diamond stylus and titanium housing, amongst other advanced elements, the MC Verismo can deliver a truly outstanding sonic output. As an Exclusive Series cartridge, it is also hand-made by seasoned artisans in Ortofon’s Danish production facility.
The housing of the MC Verismo is made using Ortofon’s pioneering Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technique. The end result provides absolute freedom from resonance, and unparalleled rigidity, alongside optimised weight and improved dynamic capability, allowing the MC Verismo to be perfectly matched with a wide array of high-end tonearms.
Like others in the Exclusive Series, the MC Verismo makes use of Ortofon’s flagship stylus. The addition of a solid diamond cantilever provides the best possible interface between stylus and armature, owing to its hardness and crystal structure. The improvements found in the use of a Diamond cantilever have redefined the boundaries of analogue reproduction, presenting greater inner detail, subtlety, and depth like never before.
The stylus and cantilever are connected into a premium generator system, featuring a special designed armature comprised of a metal alloy, which is less magnetic than normal iron. This means the armature has almost no influence on the magnetic field during movement. Moreover it allows for extreme precision in each coil turn across all layers. The end result is that the MC Verismo can obtain a higher degree of channel separation, while simultaneously offering lower distortion and better channel balance.
The further use of Ortofon’s Field Stabilising Element (FSE) – placing a small cylinder of conductive material strategically inside the magnet system for absolute stability in the magnetic field – and Wide Range Damping (WRD) system – placing a small, heavy platinum disc between two rubber absorbers with different properties for perfect damping throughout the frequency range – means the MC Verismo is capable of astonishing sound staging. The sound is dynamic, with greater space between musicians in a wide, high and deep sound field; and all delivered with exceptional clarity, free from distortion and unwanted resonances.
Cosmetically, the MC Verismo clearly draws inspiration from previous Ortofon models, such as the MC A95, but still has its own new look. The top of the cartridge body is ridged with three well-defined “contact points”, allowing for optimal coupling to the tonearm. With its optimised weight and moderate compliance, it suits a variety of turntable equipment, while its low internal impedance (7Ω) and low output voltage of 0.2mV make it easy to pair with a wide range of MC phono stages as well as step-up transformers, such as Ortofon’s own ST-80 SE.
Supplied in luxury packaging, and with a newly designed stylus guard, the MC Verismo is the perfect addition to any high-end analogue system, guaranteed to deliver a sound that simply must be experienced.
Pure Diamond
"Anyone looking for the ultimate in speed and revelation must hear the Verismo: it has extraordinary sound quality."
Ortofon MC Verismo Review
"It’s as sharply revealing as was Shure’s V15 V, yet as inviting as an artisan MC from Japan. It is nothing short of sensational."

Cartridge installation takes time and requires a level of understanding for the turntable/tonearm you are fiiting to. We've put together some comprehensive advice and size guides, available here, which will help you through each step of the procedure.
However, if at any time you feel uncomfortable with the task at hand, be sure to contact us or your local retailer for assistance.
Moving Coil (MC) cartridges generate an electrical signal by moving a tightly wound coil between two magnets. The movement is created by the cantilever, which houses the diamond stylus at its end and rides within the modulations of a record groove.
As opposed to Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges, MC designs are more difficult to produce - but often result in a more nuanced sound. For that reason, they are also often more expensive and boast better components than MM designs.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the powerful magnet inside, Moving Coil cartridges cannot be installed on turntables with magnetic (i.e. steel) platters.

The Ortofon Moving Coil Cartridge Exchange Scheme is designed to help existing Ortofon customers update or renew their Moving Coil cartridge in a much more cost-effective way.
Through the scheme, Ortofon offer a trade-in value for the current range of moving coil cartridges, as well as an extensive list of discontinued models. Through this program, we are able to help customers upgrade, replace or slightly downgrade their current phono cartridge in a more economical way than usual.
